There have been a lot of rumours about Eric Garcia, the ex-Barcelona player who moved from Camp Nou at the age of 17 to Manchester City. Barcelona needs a centre back to replace ageing Pique in the future and Garcia, a La Masia graduate is a perfect candidate and the Catalans have always been following his development at Manchester City.
The Spanish boy has gained the trust of Pep Guardiola and recently played very well at Ethiad Stadium against Liverpool beating the Premier League champions by 4-0 margin. Garcia played an important role in the backline to help the team get a clean sheet.
Barca has been closely linked with a move with Garcia, with reports in Spain promising the teenager would like to return to Camp Nou. While Manchester City is determined that Garcia won’t be leaving the club and they are in discussions with Garcia, whose contract ends next summer.
Guardiola says they are working very hard to tie the centre back down to a brand new long term deal.
“We have one more year – if they want him they must call Txiki (Begiristain, sporting director),” he said.
“We’ll try to convince him to stay here for many years. I’m confident he will stay, but it’s his decision.”
Manchester City already lost Leroy Sane this summer to Bayern Munich for as low as £45million even though being evaluated £140million last summer. Considering, Man City’s defence Guardiola won’t be ready to let the 19-year Spaniard go easily but the Barcelona born lad has his own choice to make.
Eric Garcia, with his performance, has forced himself ahead of John Stones and Guardiola believes that he’ll develop into a top-class defender and the club will probably be reluctant to allow him to leave next summer.
