POCO M2 Pro vs Redmi Note 9 Pro: In-depth comparison

The POCO M2 Pro was launched on July 7 and will be available on Flipkart from July 14 starting from Rs.13,999. This is the new smartphone from POCO in more budget segment than the POCO X2. Due to the GST rise of smartphones in India, the price has also increased. So, POCO has decided to introduce a new segment with a lesser price tag.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro has launched a few months ago in India and its starting price was Rs.13,999. So the starting prices of both smartphones are the same and even the design of both smartphones is the same. In order to differentiate both the device in terms of their specifications, this comparison is done. The main motive of this comparison is to help buyers choose the correct option as both the starting price as well as the design of both smartphones are the same.

Design

Poco M2 Pro comes with a square-shaped rear camera module at the glass back. The phone includes Gorilla Glass 5 support on the back as well as the front. The sides are curved and include a glossy back and it is prone to smudges. Overall the phone looks decent for the price. It includes a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

POCO M2 Pro

Redmi Note 9 Pro features a glass-metal sandwich design body, with Gorilla Glass 5 protection on the front and back, both these are held in place with a metal frame. The device features a punch hole on the front to house the front camera module similar to POCO M2 Pro. It also features a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for security. Coming to the back, it features a quad-camera setup in a square design, USB Type-C charging, and sports a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Redmi Note 9 Pro

Both the smartphones looks almost identical to each other as mentioned in the beginning. They are sturdy and fits easily in one hand.

Display

The POCO M2 Pro features a 6.67-inch FHD+ (1,080×2,400 pixels) display with 20:9 aspect ratio and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. There is a punch-hole cut at the top centre of the display where the front camera is housed.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro features a 16.9418 centimeters (6.67-inch) FHD+ full-screen dot display LCD multi-touch capacitive touchscreen with 2400 x 1080 pixels resolution, 400 PPI pixel density, 20:9 aspect, and 2.5D curved glass as well and there is also a punch hole cut similar to the POCO M2 Pro.

Camera

The quad rear camera setup of the Poco M2 Pro includes a 48MP primary sensor, 8MP secondary sensor with an ultra-wide-angle lens, a 5MP macro shooter, and a 2MP depth sensor. The 16MP selfie camera sensor at the front supports a preloaded night mode.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro has a quad-camera setup around the back housed in a square-shaped bump. It has a 48MP primary camera that does not perform up to the mark in low-light photography, an 8MP wide-angle camera, a 5MP macro camera, and a 2MP depth sensor. On the front, you get a 16MP selfie camera. 

Processor

The POCO M2 Pro has an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G SoC, that is Qualcomm’s latest 700 series chipset. This chipset is far better than the Snapdragon 710 chipset.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro has a 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G, an 8nm octa-core processor similar to the POCO M2 Pro.

UI and Storage

Poco M2 Pro runs on MIUI 11 for Poco, based on Android 10 and is coupled with up to 6GB LPDDR4X RAM and up to 128GB of UFS 2.1 onboard storage.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro also runs on MIUI 11 based on Android 11. It also has upto 6GB of RAM and upto 128GB of storage.

Battery

Poco M2 Pro is backed by a 5000mAh battery. It comes with support for 33W fast charging bundled in the box.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro is also powered by 5,000mAh battery but supports the 18W fast charging bundled in the box.

Price details

The Poco M2 Pro price in India has been set at Rs. 13,999 for the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant, Rs. 14,999 for the 6GB + 64GB variant and Rs. 16,999 for the 6GB + 128GB variant. The first sale starts on 14th July at 12 PM (noon) in India via Flipkart.

Redmi Note 9 Pro price in India is set at Rs. 13,999 for the 4GB + 64GB storage option while the 6GB + 128GB storage model is available for Rs. 16,999. The Redmi phone models are up for grabs via Amazon India and Mi India site in Aurora Blue, Glacier White, and Interstellar Black colour options.
