Uruguay and Ghana bow out of 2022 World Cup
In a callback to the last infamous encounter between the two, Ghana were awarded a penalty in their game against Uruguay. But, just like last time, they were unable to convert.
In spite of not winning the game, they had the last laugh, not allowing their opponents passage into the World Cup Last 16 by the finest of margins. There were several close chances that the Black Stars defended well against to reduce the margin of defeat, and extract revenge.
South Korea, on the other hand, picked up the win very late in the game, after Son Heung-Min carried the ball solo in a counter attack, and passed it to Hwang Hee Chan to make it 2-1. In doing so, they became the third AFC team to enter the knockout stages alongside Japan and Australia.
