Manchester United have been put up for sale by the Glazers family, and several names have been linked with buying the club. The likes of Dubai, Jim Ratcliffe and Elon Musk have all been discussed. But, tech giants Apple is the latest to enter the discussion.
Their net worth is around $2 trillion, with an annual turnover of £400 billion. If they were to purchase Manchester United, the club would become the richest in the world by a huge margin. That tag right now belongs to Newcastle United following their Saudi Arabia takeover.
Apple interested in buying Manchester United
The American company reportedly has plans of building a brand new stadium for the Red Devils. Complaints surrounding the current state of Old Trafford have been growing louder by the day. As a result, it would be a massive boost to the state of the club if Apple can take over.
Manchester United moved into Old Trafford in 1910, and it was most recently renovated between 2005 and 2006, with 8000 seats added.
Apple have never owned a spotting club before. And the financial prospect that United offer is supposed to be the primary motivation behind their interest. Armancio Ortega, the founder of clothing brand Zara, is also interested in purchasing the club. And it now remains to be seen as to who gets the green signal to replace the Glazers.
