In India, Sports 18 and Jio Cinema earned the rights to broadcast the 2022 World Cup. However, the beginning of the opening ceremony saw the servers struggle to keep up with the massive demand from all across the country.

Thousands of outraged fans took to social media to call out their poor service, filled with lagging freezing. Several Jio Cinema subscribers also complained of not having commentary, or listening to the commentary in a non-English language.

World Cup 2022: Indian fans hit back at poor service

Although the number of downloads for the Jio Cinema app increased dramatically prior to the start of the Qatar vs Ecuador game, the feedback from fans has been anything but positive so far.

Tweaking settings such as the camera angles being set to ‘extended stadium feed’ has helped some users. However, the five different camera angles have not been able to make up for the laggy service.

Moreover, the removal of Sports 18 and MTV HD from the Voot Premium catalogue has also been called out by viewers. The stream for Sports 18, however, has been inconsistent for users across the nation.

It remains to be seen how the channel will stream matchday 3 of the World Cup, where multiple games will be played at the same time.
