Cristiano Ronaldo of Manchester United achieved another milestone after scoring in the Europa League match against Sheriff Tiraspol of Moldova. On October 28, Ronaldo scored in the 81st minute to give him 15 goals for the year. Now, Ronaldo has an incredible record that dates back to 2005, having scored at least 15 goals annually for 18 straight calendar years.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s Incredible Record
The legendary player from Portugal, 37, has had a busy start to the current campaign. Cristiano Ronaldo missed the preseason tour due to family obligations and has been linked to several clubs in Europe. However, a transfer away from Old Trafford never happened, largely due to the big clubs’ reluctance to sign him.
Before the start of the new season, the Red Devils engaged former Ajax head coach Erik ten Hag to take over as manager at Old Trafford. Cristiano Ronaldo was benched by the Dutchman due to his lack of physical readiness and the defensive weaknesses he provides to his side. With 24 goals, Ronaldo led United’s scoring last season.
Ronaldo, who is renowned for his professionalism, denied entering the field as a replacement in United’s 2-0 Premier League victory over Tottenham Hotspur and departed the field before the game was over.
Ten Hag was upset with Ronaldo’s disruptive behavior and had him practice with the Under-21 team until a proper apology was given. He also left him off the roster for their Premier League match against Chelsea on October 22.
Ronaldo scored his third goal of the season against Sheriff Tiraspol after taking advantage of a rebound from the goalkeeper, bringing his total for club and country to 701 goals.
