On the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, Apple will reportedly add solid-state power and volume rocker buttons.

Just a few months have passed since the September debut of the iPhone 14 series. On the internet, rumours about the next-generation iPhone 15 lineup have already begun to circulate. Reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has released fresh details on the premium iPhone 15 variants.

My latest survey indicates that the volume button and power button of two high-end iPhone 15/2H23 new iPhone models may adopt a solid-state button design (similar to the home button design of iPhone 7/8/SE2 & 3) to replace the physical/mechanical button design.

The current-generation iPhones have physical/mechanical buttons to make things easier. The SE 2’s home button and the iPhone 7, 8, and even the solid-state button have comparable designs.

By providing haptic feedback to confirm presses, the solid-state buttons give consumers the impression that they are pushing physical buttons. In truth, the buttons don’t sink in. Only the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are anticipated to receive the design modification.

The cellphones’ inside left and right sides will include Taptic Engines for this purpose. As a result, the upcoming Apple flagships may also feature three taptic engines in addition to the current vibration motor. The physical power and volume buttons being removed will also help to eliminate two extra entry sites for dust and water, making the phone more durable.

Kuo continues by stating that premium Android OEMs are anticipated to imitate Apple’s solid-state button design to provide a new selling point.

As stated in earlier reports, Apple complies with the EU regulation requiring USB-C connectors for phone manufacturers. This might imply that the iPhone 15 will use a USB-C connection instead of the Lightning port. The next generation of iPhones appears to have a buttonless design and a USB-C connection as their main attractions.
