Real Madrid captain Karim Benzema has won the Pichichi award for the first time in his career. The award is given to the highest scorer of the Spanish top flight league. The Frenchman scored 27 goals last season to win the award.
Along with the Pichichi award, Benzema also won the Di Stefano Trophy and the Hyundai Supporters’ MVP Trophy, to make it a hattrick of awards at the MARCA 2022 Awards Gala held in the Goya Theatre.

Benzema said after winning the Pichichi trophy: “I feel very proud of my work. I think this year is going to be a difficult year. I always want to do more.”
“I’m going to try and do more, that includes winning LaLiga, scoring a lot of goals and most importantly, enjoying myself on the pitch.”
“It’s a very important trophy for me, thanks to my teammates. Without them I wouldn’t be here today. Thanks to the fans, the club and the president.”
“Every year is different, every year our rivals want to win LaLiga and let’s see what happens this year. But we are strong and let’s see what happens.”
Benzema also told his favourite goal from last season. He said: “If it’s LaLiga, I think the one against Sevilla in the last minute. In the Champions League it’s the ones against PSG, it was a special night.”
Juan Ignacio Gallardo, director of MARCA, said at the presentation: “He is an intelligent, intuitive, brilliant footballer. He’s not just a great striker, he knows how to read football. Last season he established himself. Today he will receive the award that all children dream of, the Pichichi. It is a luxury to have players like Benzema.”
