The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be played like the old days. As per BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, IPL 2023 will have the old HOME and AWAY format. The schedule for IPL 2023 will be also decided very soon.
Since the Pandemic hit the world, in 2029 and 2020, the tournament was held in three venues of UAE, Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi. It was considered the safest option while India was one of the worst sufferers.
In the following year too, the Board didn’t want to risk the lives of the players, and the tournament was held at four venues namely Delhi, Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Chennai. In 2022, the T20 tournament was held across Maharashtra.
With signs of improving conditions, the league is set to return to its authentic format which is the home and one away.
“The next season of men’s IPL will also go back to the home and away format with all ten teams playing their home matches at their designated venues,” read a Ganguly’s note to state units.– Ganguly’s note delivered to the state units
The BCCI is conducting a full-grown domestic season for the first time after 2020, it’s also expected that the multi-day tournaments will be returning in the same format.
Apart from this, the Board is also excited to conduct Women’s IPL next year.
“The BCCI is currently working on the much-awaited Women’s IPL. We are expecting to start the first season early next year,” Ganguly wrote in the letter dated September 20.
With Women’s IPL, it will increase the standards of women’s cricket as well as increase awareness. The BCCI is on its way to launching a girls ‘ Under-15 one-day tournament’.
The BCCI is taking all necessary steps to make Women’s cricket mainstream in India.
