The editor of Hardwareluxx, Andreas Schilling, tweeted a full wafer photo that revealed the first die shot of Intel’s Core i9-13900K, the top Raptor Lake CPU. IDC (Intel Design Center), which is situated in Haifa, Israel, has received invitations from tech journalists from all over the world. The FAB28, a top manufacturing facility where Intel’s next Raptor Lake CPUs are produced, was open to the tech and media community.

Just a few miles south of Tel Aviv in Israel’s Kiryat Gat is where you’ll find the cutting-edge factory. In that location, Intel produced press hold wafers using its newest Raptor Lake silicon.

The wafer that was displayed has the entire Raptor Lake-S Desktop CPU die, which consists of 16 upgraded Gracemont cores and 8 P-cores based on Raptor Cove cores. Up to 24 cores and 32 threads are combined. Each die has eight E-cores, which are visible on the wafer.

Next, we have the larger P-cores, which have a faint brown hue and appear larger. In contrast to the Alder Lake CPUs, which only have two clusters, the four E-cores combine to form four such clusters on the silicon.

Intel Raptor Lake & Alder Lake CPU Cache Configurations (Rumored):

Raptor Lake P-Core L3 – 3 MB (3 x 8 = 24MB)
Alder Lake P-Core L3 – 3 MB (3 x 8 = 24 MB)
Raptor Lake P-Core L2 – 2 MB (2 x 8 = 16 MB)
Alder Lake P-Core L2 – 1.25 MB (1.25 x 8 = 10 MB)
Raptor Lake E-Core L3 – 3 MB (3 x 4 = 12 MB)
Alder Lake E-Core L3 –  2 MB (2 x 2 = 4 MB)
Raptor Lake E-Core L2 – 4 MB (4 x 4 = 16 MB)
Alder Lake E-Core L2 – 2 MB (2 x 2 = 4 MB)
Raptor Lake Total Cache (L3+L2) = 68 MB
Alder Lake Total Cache (L3 + L2) = 42 MB

According to estimates, each Raptor Cove core in Intel’s 13th generation Raptor Lake CPUs will have 2 MB L2 and 3 MB L3 cache, while each Gracemont Cluster would have 4 MB L2 and 3 MB L3 cache. With 16 MB (2×8) for P-cores & 16 MB (4×4) for E-cores, this will give us a total of 36 MB L3 cache across all cores.

The 13th generation Intel Raptor Lake CPUs have a somewhat larger die, measuring 23.8 x 10.8mm or 257.04mm, as seen in deleted die pictures. The Alder Lake top-die’s dimensions are 20.4 x 10.2mm, or 208.08mm2, for reference. The new CPUs will feature more Gracemont E-Cores and larger L2/L3 caches than the 12th Gen components, which explains the rise of 24% in die area.

The top-tier Raptor Lake CPU is the Intel Core i9-13900K, which has 24 cores and 32 threads in an 8 P-Core and 16 E-Core architecture. The CPU is set up to run at 3.0 GHz base speed, 5.8 GHz single-core boost (1-2 cores), and 5.5 GHz all-core boost. The CPU has a 125W PL1 rating that goes up to 250W and 68 MB of shared cache.
