The Taiwanese foundry is moving at a rocking pace and its recent development in the chip development has surprised everyone totally. Major players in the industry like Huawei, AMD, Apple and even NVIDIA heavily rely on TSMC’s manufacturing process.

TSMC this year has already started shipping it 5nm nodes and based on it the first products will arrive in Q4 2020. Now, surprisingly, TSMC has come up with its N4 node to bridge the gap between the 3nm and 5nm manufacturing process.

TSMC unveils its new 6nm chip manufacturing process

“N4 is an evolution from N5,” TSMC Chairman Mark Liu told EE Times at a press event in Hsinchu, Taiwan. “We’re already in business negotiations with customers on N4.”

N5P will be launching in 2022, while N4 will enter into mass production in 2023. On the other hand, TSMC’s much-speculated N3 node’s trial production will begin in H1 2021, also TSMC seems to be accelerating on its N2 process development as well.

As pointed out by EE Times, the world’s biggest foundry, TSMC is in right progression as Samsung may start its 3nm node production as early as 2020. Samsung has even invested $116 billion to build a 5nm wafer fab in Pyeongtaek, south of Seoul in order to counter TSMC.

TSMC disclosed nothing except confirming its 4nm manufacturing process because this news leaked out even before the company could prepare itself for a formal press release.
