Free Taipei GTA Clone Hits 1.2M Concurrent Players

On Sunday, October 4, 2026, the free Taipei GTA clone reached 1.2 million concurrent players, turning a Taipei-set open-world game into one of the day’s biggest gaming stories.

Its base game costs nothing, although optional microtransactions are available. The announcement, launch timeline and hardware details below are based on unconfirmed records rather than a complete official fact sheet. A crowded virtual Taipei now sits at the centre of a major player surge. The game was reportedly announced by its development studio on August 15, 2025, before its stated launch on September 28, 2026.

Free Taipei Reaches a Major Player Milestone

The 1.2 million concurrent-player figure measures how many people were playing at the same time, not total downloads or lifetime users. That distinction matters because a free-to-play launch can attract large install numbers while producing a much smaller active audience. This result points to strong early interest in a crime-focused open-world format set in Taiwan’s capital.

The GTA comparison comes from the game’s broad design premise: an urban map, vehicle-based movement and activities built around a criminal sandbox. The exact size of its map, mission count and multiplayer systems remain unspecified in the available facts. > 1.2 million concurrent players makes the launch figure the central story, not the game’s free entry The result also puts pressure on the studio’s servers, moderation systems and payment infrastructure. Optional purchases can support ongoing development, but the first test is whether the game can retain players after the launch peak. For more detail, see Gizmodo.

How the Clone Reached the Spotlight

The studio announced the title on August 15, 2025, giving the project more than a year of public runway before its stated September 28, 2026 launch. That gap created time for players to form expectations around the Taipei setting and the game’s GTA-style structure.

The free-to-play model removed the largest barrier to entry. Players did not need to pay for the base game before deciding whether the city, driving systems and missions justified continued play. The audience spike is significant because paid open-world releases usually depend on pre-orders and full-

The reported minimum RAM requirement is 16 GB, which places the game above the memory configuration still found in many older desktop PCs. Players should also reserve 85 GB of storage for the installation, making a solid-state drive a practical choice even though the stated requirement only identifies capacity.

The recommended processor is the Intel Core i7-12700K, a desktop chip aimed at optimal performance rather than basic compatibility. The display specification supports a maximum native resolution of 4K at 144Hz, but reaching that combination in a demanding open-world game will depend on the graphics hardware and selected quality settings.

These figures give PC players an early planning guide, but they do not reveal the required graphics card, ope

What Happens After 1.2 Million Players?

The next challenge is maintaining the audience beyond the opening surge. Server reliability, patch quality, mission variety and fair monetisation will determine whether the game becomes a lasting platform or a short-lived launch event. The studio may also need to publish clearer PC requirements before more players upgrade or download the game.

Its current free-entry strategy gives it a large funnel, while the 85 GB install and 16 GB RAM requirement narrow the compatible hardware pool. The wider free-access trend includes games and services competing for attention at the same time, including products discussed in Insta360 Action Free coverage. For this Taipei title, the decisive next signal will be sustained activity after the initial crowd disperses.

The crowded virtual streets are proof of launch demand; the coming updates will show whether the city has enough reasons to keep players returning.
