How much time has Jurgen Klopp’s incredible Liverpool reign bought him?

The Premier League is just three fixtures old and there is a good chance that Liverpool’s title ambitions are all but over. In short, it has been a dreadful start for the Reds who are now in the lap of the gods with regards to the league’s table-topping teams dropping the necessary points that will bring them back into the equation to win the league.

As things stand, the latest Premier League betting odds for the outright market price the Reds at 7/1 to win the title which even Liverpool fans would be quick to admit, is quite generous given the state that the club looks to be in. It goes without saying but this price could quite easily skyrocket should Liverpool continue to flounder in the early season.

The feeling, however, is that after draws with Fulham and Crystal Palace, which was then followed up by a defeat to Manchester United, and on top of the lengthy injury list at Anfield, the Reds will ultimately battle to find the momentum they need in order to mount a serious title charge. Put another way, the club should prepare for an indifferent run of results.

How much time has Jurgen Klopp’s incredible Liverpool reign bought him?

With this in mind, the question has to be how long Jurgen Klopp will be given by the Liverpool board should this run of form continue. To some, this may seem like a predicament that is somewhat premature but even if Klopp rides this poor start out and steadies the ship sooner rather than later, the question remains: how much credit does Klopp have in the bank at Liverpool?

A considerable amount has to be the answer when you consider that the German has delivered every major domestic trophy a manager can whilst in the Anfield dugout.

This essentially means that the owners will have their hands tied should they ever want to make a change as the fan revolt would be significant. Indeed, Klopp is revered by the Anfield faithful who it should be said, holds a telling amount of power at the club, as the climb down from Fenway Sports Group over the ill-fated European Super League proves.

There does, of course, also come a time when the patience of a fanbase eventually wanes but in Liverpool’s case, the club would have to be stuck in a relegation fight for any resentment against Klopp to be audible from the terraces. Now, as badly as Liverpool has started their 2022/2023 campaign, the chances of the club slipping into a fight for their Premier League lives is relatively low.

All of this essentially means that the threshold for any mutiny against Klopp remains high which in turn should ensure that the owners abide by the mood music at Anfield.

Indeed, the German’s trophy-laden spell with the Reds has, for now, earned him the right to see out the storms that will pass over Anfield. Make no mistake though, the clouds are beginning to gather over this famous old stadium and we’ll soon see if Klopp is made to walk alone should they not abate.
