Marcos Alonso is set to join Barcelona from Chelsea this week. The player is keen to make the move for personal reasons, and a transfer worth under €10 million will be finalised in the coming days for the left-back.
The departure of the player has been confirmed by Thomas Tuchel as well, who spoke after the 1-0 win against Everton. “Yes, Marcos asked to leave and we agreed to this. It would make no sense to put him on the pitch today,” the German manager said.
Marcos Alonso to join Barcelona as final signing of the summer
The Spaniard has won every trophy available with Chelsea. And with only one year remaining on his deal, he is keen to return to Spain and be close to his friends and family. With personal terms agreed months ago, it is now time for the two clubs to finalise an agreement.
Once the documents are signed, only the formalities from the player’s end will have to be completed to make the deal official. Marcos Alonso will join Andreas Christensen as the second Chelsea player to move to Camp Nou this summer.
Cesar Azpilicueta was expected to make that list, but instead ended up extending his contract with Chelsea until 2024. The club captain has agreed a pay rise that will see him stay for at least one more season before a move to Spain comes calling again.
