Rennes have abandoned negotiations for the transfer of Samuel Umtiti from Barcelona. The French side were doubtful about his physical condition, and have decided to withdraw from negotiations with the Spanish side.

The central defender managed only one appearance this past season, and has no future in the team. Fitness issues and injuries have plagued his time at Camp Nou, and he is on the transfer list this summer for the club alongside several other players.

Samuel Umtiti future up in the air as Rennes pull out of negotiations

Rennes have decided to replace Samuel Umtiti with Morato from Benfica. The Brazilian centre-back is expected to make the move to France this summer, with negotiations close to being wrapped up. And given that he is 21, he will be a great investment for the team in the long run.

Rey Manaj and Clement Lenglet have been moved out for the season, and Umtiti remains among the players that need to be offloaded. Miralem Pjanic, Sergino Dest and potentially, Riqui Puig are also expected to join new clubs this summer.

A deal has been struck between Barcelona and Sporting for the transfer of Francisco Trincao. The Portuguese club will be paying €10 million for 50% of the player’s rights in a rather complicated deal. This was previously seen with the deal involving Emerson Royal with Real Betis. The departures will be crucial for Barcelona, as they aim to free up room in their wage bill for better incomings.
