Matthijs De Ligt’s future remains uncertain ahead of the 22/23 season. But, Bayern Munich are now emerging as the frontrunners for his signature ahead of Chelsea. According to some reports, the player’s agents have broken off talks with any other club, and are working for him to move to Bavaria this summer.
The Dutch centre-back has a contract with Juventus until 2024, and is unlikely to renew his deal. Hasan Salihamidzic and Federico Cherubini had a three hour meeting for the player, and are confident of reaching an agreement for the transfer soon.
Matthijs De Ligt prioritising Bayern Munich move
Chelsea and Bayern Munich are both expected to make an offer for the 22-year-old today. But, the player is leaning more towards a move to the Bundesliga champions than to Thomas Tuchel’s side.
“We’re happy with the quality we have at centre-back. But we can improve when it comes to leadership, loudness and presence”, said Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn when asked about the topic of Matthijs De Ligt joining the club.
As a result, it is likely that he will be the replacement for Niklas Sule, who joined Borussia Dortmund as a free agent. He will also provide some much needed leadership to the backline, which could help Bayern regain their defensive composure.
Juventus are looking to sign Kalidou Koulibaly as the replacement for De Ligt, and will start talks with Napoli over his signing soon.
