Chelsea are closing in on the signing of Matthijs De Ligt this summer. The player is keen on joining Thomas Tuchel’s line-up ahead of the coming season, and talks between the two clubs are progressing positively to finalise the transfer.
The Serie A side were previously asking for a transfer fee around £80-85 million, which is closer to his release clause of £102 million. However, his form in recent years has forced the Old Lady to consider lower bids as well. He has a contract running until 2024, and matters will become complicated if he isn’t sold this summer, and then doesn’t agree to a renewal.

The transfer fee that Chelsea have now suggested is around £60-65 million, with add-ons taking the amount higher. A player plus cash deal was being discussed previously, with Timo Werner or Christian Pulisic being linked with a move in the other direction.
However, any such deal will have to be talked about separately. And by the looks of things, Pulisic isn’t willing to leave the club this summer.
Juventus are trying to fetch around £75 million for Matthijs De Ligt, but the difference in valuation is very small. And as a result, a final deal could be agreed as soon as the next few days.
The Dutchman would become first signing of the men’s team under the Todd Boehly ownership, and would be a statement signing for the West London side, who have yet to announce an incoming.
