Southampton have confirmed the signing of Gavin Bazunu from Manchester City. The 20-year-old has made the switch from the Premier League champions for a fee worth £12 million.

The goalkeeper is already an Ireland international, and has made 10 appearances for the national team. He joined City three years ago from Shamrock Rovers but never played for their first team. And now, he has a new challenge ahead of him.

“Gavin is a very exciting addition to the squad,” said Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl.

“He is a goalkeeper with a very modern style of play, comfortable in the build-up phase, who has developed physically through some very important loan moves early in his career.

“He is already an international goalkeeper, which is very rare for his age.

Here is what the player said upon his signing: “I feel like it’s a place I can come and develop and learn my game. The biggest thing is opportunity – the fact that I can come here and have a chance to play regular football.”

Gavin Bazunu and Mateusz Lis join Southampton

Alongside Gavin Bazunu, Southampton have also signed Polish goalkeeper Mateusz Lis following his exit from Turkish club Altay, who were just relegated. He played with several teams such as Wisla Krakow, and has now made the switch to the Premier League.

Former Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster has moved to Tottenham upon the expiry of his contract. But, the Saints have now signed two replacements between the sticks to reinforce their backline and put up a strong challenge next season.
