La Liga side Valencia are set to appoint Gennaro Gattuso as their new head coach. Jose Bordalas, the former head coach, will be leaving the club and will be replaced by the Italian imminently.
Tensions between Jose Bordalas and owner Peter Lim have taken its toll at Mestalla. The team was able to progress to the finals of the Copa del Rey, only to lose to Real Betis. Moreover, they finished ninth in the league, missing out on European football by a large margin.
Valencia to appoint Gennaro Gattuso as new head coach
The former Napoli manager has already signed his contract as the new Valencia manager. The deal runs until 2024, with the option for a further year. His appointment will be made official once the departure of Bordalas has been announced.
The 44-year-old started coaching in 2013, and has since managed Palermo, OFI Crete, Pisa, Milan Primavera, Milan and Napoli. After leaving the Azzurri, he didn’t manage a team this past season but is now set to return to management with a move to La Liga.
Due to the difficult financial situation in place at Valencia, it will be very challenging for Gennaro Gattuso to build a competitive squad. High-profile departures this summer will also be a big issue that the manager will have to deal with when he is officially on the job.
