Italy and Argentina will face off in the third edition of the Finalissima at the Wembley Stadium. The winners of the European Championship and the Copa America will face off for the continental Super Cup today. The previous two editions were held in 1985 and 1993.
Italy have not qualified for the World Cup, but will have the opportunity to make history if they can defeat Argentina. The champions of South America are on an unbeaten run of 31 games, and it won’t be easy to throw them off considering how good they have been recently.
Finalissima preview: Italy vs Argentina
This might be the last time we see Giorgio Chiellini in an Italy shirt, and he is hopeful of heading into retirement with a win in the Super Cup. He led his country to their Euro 2020 victory at Wembley, defeating England. And it would be the perfect send-off if he is able to win again in the Finalissima.
For Lionel Scaloni’s men, there is plenty of motivation considering they are taking on the European champions and can make a mark in Europe with their win. They have been ‘training like never before’ and are at their best ahead of the big game.
Both teams are expected to name their best line-ups in the game. Italy will be without Federico Chiesa and Ciro Immobile, but have other options to choose from. Lionel Messi, Paulo Dybala, Angel Correa, Angel Di Maria and Lautaro Martinez have all been named in the star-studded attacking squad that Argentina have.
