BMW has launched the i4 electric sedan in India at a price of 69.90 lakh INR ex-showroom price which places it right below the flagship iX electric SUV. For some context, it has been priced at 4 lakh INR more than the 387hp BMW M340i and nearly 13 lakh INR more than the BMW 3 Series Grand Limousine. Along with being an all-electric equivalent of the regular 4 Series Gran Couple, the i4 is the second offering from BMW in India.
BMW i4 detailed design and features:
The car is similar to the iX, the i4 is based on the CLAR architecture with the 83.9 kWh battery pack that powers the rear axle-mounted electric motor that produces 340hp and 430Nm, allowing the i4 to accelerate from 0-100kph in just 5.7 seconds. It has a top speed of 190kph. The car can charge at rates of up to 205kW, which adds 164 KM of range in just 10 minutes.
The i4 comes in a higher-spec M50 xDrive version that gets an all-wheel drive, produces 544hp, and nearly 795Nm of peak torque. It is capable of sprinting from 0-100kph in just 3.9 seconds. This version arrives with a driving range of up to 510 KM.
Customers have an option to charge the BMW i4 through a traditional wall box charger at a rate of 11kW, which sets the battery from 0 to 100 in just 8.5 hours. The electric car has regenerative braking that can boost the battery life up at a rate of up to 116kW in the eDrive40. The carmaker claims that the car offers a range of nearly 590 KM which makes it the highest among all luxury EVs in India.
Coming to the design of the car, the i4 has a design that is similar to its ICE-powered counterpart, it has a few aspects to it that distinguish it from the pack. These changes prioritize aerodynamics, cooling, and improving efficiency in order to extract the highest range. The closed-off kidney grille consists of a 10-stage active air flap, front lip spoiler, 17″ aerodynamically engineered gorgeous wheels, stunning blue accents, plush door handles, and an entire reprofiled front along with rear bumpers.
Owing to all of these features, the i4 Drive 40 features a drag coefficient of just 0.24. The i4 measures 4,783mm in length, 1,852mm in width, and 1,448mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,856mm which is 39mm longer than that of a regular 3 series sedan. Given the low floor, the i4 has a ground clearance of 125mm which can translate to be an issue as it does not have a lift mechanism.
The i4 is set to come in a single Drive40 variant which gets a lot of convenience and safety features unlike the iX SUV, the i4 retains the cabin layout and dashboard from the regular 4 Series Coupe, and although it lacks out on the flat floor along with a free center console area.
The Sedan has a curved twin-screen setup that has a 12.3″ digital instrument cluster and a 14.9″ touch infotainment system. Along with BMW’s latest Drive 8 UI, the system supports over-the-air updates along with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay functionality. For enhanced comfort, the carmaker has equipped the vehicle with a rear air suspension and lift-related dampers.
The i4 eDrive40s other integral features include three-zone automatic climate control, LED ambient lighting, a sunroof, reverse parking assist with cameras, and an amazing 17″ Harman Kardon surround sound system.
