Spurs to sign Fraser Forster as backup to Lloris as a free agent in June 2022

Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster is set to join Tottenham Hotspur when his contract runs out at the end of next month. He currently earns a salary worth £5 million per season with Southampton, but will be taking a pay cut to join the London club as a backup goalkeeper behind Hugo Lloris.

Spurs have already decided not to make Pierluigi Gollini’s loan spell permanent. The Atalanta goalkeeper will be returning to the Serie A next month, after very limited opportunities under Antonio Conte. And much like their signing of Joe Hart, the club will have an experienced English goalkeeper.

The player has reached total agreement with Tottenham over his contract. All that remains now is for the medical assessment to be complete, and for the contract to be signed before the move is made official.

West Brom keeper Sam Johnstone was among the other targets that Tottenham had in mind. But, they have instead decided to go for the 6ft 7in Saints goalkeeper on a free transfer.

Hugo Lloris has a contract with Tottenham until 2024, and will be 37 when his new deal with the club runs out. As a result, there is seemingly little chance for even Fraser Forster to be the number one anytime soon. But in the case of injuries or Cup games, Forster would be a great option based to his performances for Southampton over the years.
