Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 chip yesterday along with some performance and power efficiency upgrades over its predecessor. Nearly 16 brands have confirmed that they will be launching their smartphones with this chip from the 3rd quarter of 2022. There is no exact date for the launch of the first smartphone with this chip as of yet.
ASUS has announced the ROG Phone 6 will be the first gaming device to debut the Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 chip:
ASUS is likely to release the first gaming-centric phone powered by the new chip while Realme will also be introducing its own device with the latest chip, the Realme GT 2 Master Explorer Edition.
The Realme GT 2 Master Explorer Edition will be introduced in China but we are not sure if it will be released in all the global markets. The GT Master Explorer Edition powered by the Snapdragon 870 was only released in China, so do not have that high of hopes for the successor to launch globally.
ASUS and Realme are yet to reveal more details about their upcoming devices. Apart from these brands, we can expect Black Shark to release a new flagship device with the latest chip as well.
HONOR and iQOO are likely to catch up as well and release flagship devices powered by the chip, however, it is more likely that they will release those phones towards the end of this year or at the beginning of next year. Motorola, Nubia, OnePlus, Oppo, Red Magic, Vivo, and Xiaomi will all catch up eventually.
For now, these brands have not yet publicly confirmed it but it is understood as flagship devices feature the best chips out there. Not only flagship devices but all gaming phones could also switch to the new Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 chip in order to offer an optimal experience.
We can expect the companies to announce their plans in the coming months. For more information on the Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 chip, you can check this link out.
