Oppo has been on a shopping spree lately, the Chinese company has purchased a couple of new patents from another brand, the brand being Sharp. Oppo has acquired nearly 100 patents which are all related to a number of fields varying from wireless communication to video coding.
Oppo and Sharp were involved in a global patent dispute:
The two companies were in a heated legal battle over patent disputes. They finally ended the dispute by entering into a cross-licensing agreement back in October 2021. Oppo has now acquired a slew of patents from Sharp, which also shows off the growing cooperation between both parties in the field of patents.
For now, Oppo has been filing patents while also purchasing high-quality assets. As per a report from ITHome, the brand acquired a family of US patents that were all related to wireless communications. The company has also acquired a family of 4 video coding patents (H.266).
Oppo has been acquiring patents from other firms since last year, the latest transaction with Sharp falls in accordance with its previous transactions. All the way in May 2021, Oppo had bought 47 wireless communication patents from ZTE which were all related to base stations, terminals, networks, and wireless communications.
Oppo has also entered into cooperative agreements or patent transactions with entity companies or NPEs such as Ericsson, Sharp, Dolby, Invenergy, and Intellectual Ventures.
