Borussia Dortmund have officially announced the signing of Karim Adeyemi from RB Salzburg. The 20-year-old is the third confirmed signing for the German side next season, after Niklas Sule and Nico Schlotterbeck.
The two parties have agreed a five-year contract until June 2027. Only the transfer fee was the discussion point in the last few weeks, and Dortmund reached an agreement for €38 million plus add-ons.
Karim Adeyemi joins Borussia Dortmund
“As a young boy I was fascinated by Dortmund’s fast-paced football,” Karim Adeyemi told the official club website.
“So when I learned of Dortmund’s interest, I knew straight away that I wanted to join BVB. I consciously signed a long-term contract because I’m convinced we’ll be an exciting team and with the support of the fans, in the medium-term we’ll be able to compete for and win the title.”
Erling Haaland has been confirmed as a Manchester City player next season. And with the Norwegian striker leaving, Adeyemi will naturally be considered the direct replacement for him. But, Dortmund have plans to sign another centre-forward alongside the young Germany international.
The now former RB Salzburg player has been a very impressive talent during his time in the Austrian Bundesliga, as well as the Champions League. He helped the team reach the knockout stages of the Champions League before bowing out against former club Bayern Munich.
It will be very interesting to see how he adapts to the German Bundesliga, and whether he can be the reliable goalscorer that Dortmund now need.
