Marcos Alonso could be on his way back to Spain this summer, with Barcelona waiting to open talks with Chelsea regarding his transfer. He is one of the names on their transfer list to reinforce the left-back position, and according to reports, is keen to return to his native country as well.

Todd Boehly’s consortium has been confirmed as the new owners of the Blues. And the full takeover is set to be completed by the end of May, in time for the transfer window. As a result, once the new board arrives, talks about a potential transfer will be up and running.

There are no problems between the player and the club on personal terms. All that remains to be sorted is the transfer negotiations once Chelsea are able to do so.

Andreas Christensen is already joining Barcelona in the summer as a free agent since his contract runs out. And by the looks of things, Marcos Alonso could join his teammate on the way back to Spain.

Once Ben Chilwell returns from his injury next season, it is likely that Alonso will return to being a back-up option under Thomas Tuchel. His current deal runs until June 2023, and the Blues will most probably let the 31-year-old leave if they can reach an agreement for the transfer fee with Barcelona.
