The Juventus vs Inter match was scheduled to take place on 1st March. But due to the fear of a possible outbreak of Coronavirus, Serie A has now officially postponed the match.
Among all the European countries, Italy has been the most affected. More than 1000 people are affected by the Coronavirus, with a death toll of around 15.
Serie A is taking the possibility of an outbreak seriously. They had initially ordered the 5 matches to be played behind closed doors on the weekend. But have now postponed them. All the matches will be played on 13th May in order to “contain and manage the epidemiological emergency that is COVID-19.”
The 5 Serie A matches which have been postponed:
- Juventus v Inter
- Milan v Genoa
- Parma v SPAL
- Udinese v Fiorentina
- Sassuolo v Brescia
The Juventus vs Inter match will now be played just before 11 days from the end of this season. Juventus sit on top of the league table but Antonio Conte’s Inter has also been posing a serious challenge for the title this season. Inter are 6 points behind with a game in hand.
The rescheduled date will add extra importance to the Derby d’Italia. The match will probably be the title decider considering how things are now.
Meanwhile, the Coppa Italia final which was scheduled to take place on 13th May has also been rescheduled on 20th May.
