East Bengal executives stated today at a press conference held at the club tent that the club will play in the ISL as well as other big events. They also stated that they are in discussions with a few organizations for sponsorship. Basundhara will begin negotiations with Group as soon as Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gives her approval, according to Club official Debabrata Sarkar.
ISL and Press Conference
Club official Debabrata Sarkar thanked Shree Cement for their two-year-long association with the club. He also said, “Already we are in talks with some potential investors and will confirm it very soon. Everything will be finalized within 10-15 days.”
The discussions with Basundhara have progressed to the next level. They will become an investor in East Bengal as soon as they gain approval from Bangladesh’s Prime Minister. Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, is directly involved in the investor selection process.
Word from Debabrata
Debabrata Sarkar also hailed the club’s ex-players for their continued support. He said: “We are much grateful to them for their continuous association with the club. They have sent us a list of players from the I-League. They will be present at Santosh Trophy venues to scout players.”
East Bengal would participate in all upcoming tournaments, including the ISL, he stated. “We will play in ISL. Will be much happy if Mohammedan SC also plays in ISL along with us in the future. We will prepare four different teams if the need arises.”
Shree Cement officials had already told Bengal Chief Minister about their willingness to leave the club before alerting the club.
He commented: “West Bengal Chief minister called me on February 17. She said that Shree Cement is willing to return their sporting rights. We were all mentally prepared for the letter. We have accepted the letter and have sent it to our lawyers.”
In the press conference, club officials also praised Biswa Majumder for his assistance during this time. Debabrata Sarkar said,” We will bring the club back to where it belongs in the coming seasons.”
