Darwin Nunez heavily rumoured to leave Benfica for €80m in June

Darwin Nunez scored his sixth Champions League goal of the season in Benfica’s 3-3 draw with Liverpool at Anfield. The striker has been enjoying a remarkable season this year, and is attracting strong interest from England over a move in the summer. 

Clubs like West Ham United and Arsenal were interested in him during the January transfer window as well. Benfica had to refuse a €45 million bid during the winter transfer window to keep him at the club, and as a result, they were able to progress to the quarter finals of the Champions League.

While Benfica were able to keep hold of the Uruguayan for the remainder of the season, it is likely that he will leave for a bigger challenge in June. Clubs like Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham are interested in signing him. 

The price tag quoted to persuade Benfica is around €75/80 million. Darwin Nunez now has a new agent to help him secure a transfer away as well. 

Benfica signed Nunez from Almeria in 2020. They paid €24 million to make him their record signing. And this season, he has delivered a return justifying the club’s faith in him, with 32 goals across all competitions. 

The player is only 22 and has shown that he can perform at the highest level. As a result, it will be interesting to see where he moves to at the end of the season.
