Gonzalo Higuain will be retiring from football at the end of the year, when his contract with Inter Miami expires. The striker is currently in his third season with the MLS outfit, and will be calling time on an illustrious career at the age of 34.

There were rumours linking the forward with a move back to Argentina, but those have been put to rest by the player’s father.

“He is not going back to Argentina. He told me that he is retiring at the end of the year. He is ending this year and is retiring from football.

“I would love for him to continue to be linked to football after playing. He is a boy who knows a lot, who has played in several places, he has everything to succeed. For me it would be an insult if he does not continue in football.”

Higuain has played in five countries, and has won 14 major titles during his career. His most prolific spell came for Napoli and Juventus in Serie A, alongside seven years with Real Madrid.

The forward has made 75 appearances for Argentina, and scored 31 goals for them. He made it to the World Cup on three different occasions, and guided them to the finals in the 2014 edition against Germany, as they finished runners up.
