Barcelona Femeni defeated their arch rivals Real Madrid in the quarter finals of the Women’s Champions League by an aggregate score of 8-3. The match was the first women’s Clasico to be hosted at Camp Nou.
The occasion proved to be a historic one for the Blaugrana, as they broke the attendance record for a women’s football game. With almost 92,000 people in attendance, both teams went at it strongly. But, the home team were just better, and have taken one step further to defending their Champions League crown.
Barcelona Femeni thrash Real Madrid 5-2
After a 3-1 win in their first meeting, Barcelona were at the top of their game in the return leg as well. Mapi León opened the scoring early in the game, with her intended cross ending up in the back of the net. Olga Carmona got her side back into the game with a goal ten minutes after Barcelona’s opener.
There were several goal of the season contenders in the game, with both sides converting remarkable strikes. But, four goals in 18 minutes in the second half saw the home team earn a dominant win in front of a packed stadium.
The home team dominated possession and played their usual brand of football that they are known for. And with Real Madrid being unable to keep themselves composed as they did in the first half, they ended up being torn apart with almost every attack. Barcelona Femeni will take on either of Wolfsburg or Arsenal in the semifinal of the Women’s Champions League.
