History
The GC of the Indian Premier League (IPL) issued an invitation to tender for the two sides. 22 companies were interested but due to the high base price, there were only six serious bidders. The Sanjib Goenka owned RPSG Group won the rights of a franchise with a whopping worth of Rs 7090 Crore. The name “Lucknow Super Giants was chosen January 2022. Prior to the Mega Auction, the franchise chose KL Rahul as its skipper for Rs 17 Cr and retained Marcus Stonis and Ravi Bishnoi.
Lucknow Super Giants Full Squad
KL Rahul, Marcus Stoinis, Ravi Bishnoi, Quinton de Kock, Deepak Hooda, Manish Pandey, Krunal Pandya, Jason Holder, Mark Wood, Avesh Khan, Ankit Rajput, K Gowtham, Dushmanta Chameera, Shahbaz Nadeem, Manan Vohra, Mohsin Khan, Ayush Badoni, Karan Sharma, Evin Lewis, Mayank Yadav, Kyle Mayers.
Strength
LSG has very well balanced bowlers. There are pacers like Mark Wood, Avesh Khan and Jason Holder who are an asset to the team. Avesh Khan and Dushmanta Chameera can have major contributions in the death overs. The spin-bowling department is quite aggressive. Ravi Bishnoi who had an incredible performance last year from Punjab Kings, K Gothwam and Krunal Pandya can have a major impact on the team performance.
Weakness
The team lacks experienced batters. Even though the franchise has KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock as openers but there was a need for a few more. The franchise purchased Manish Pandey as option 3 for their batting order. He didn’t have a good IPL performance and Manjan Vohra didn’t have consistent performance.
There are still a few hard hitters in the team, like Hooda, Stoinis, Gowtham and Krunal. There’s no specific batter who would stick throughout the innings though it’s expected that KL Rahul or Quinton De Koch will be wearing that hat.
