10 years of Kahaani has been completed yesterday i.e. on 9th March. On Wednesday, Sujoy Ghosh has expressed his gratitude towards the audience for continuous showering of love on his mystery thriller movie named Kahaani which was released in the year 2012. The movie stars Vidya Balan in the lead role.
The movie Kahaani is still being remembered by the audiences for its great storytelling, and eye-catching performance by the whole cast. Simultaneously, the cinematography has also held a great place for contribution, it makes it a lived-in feel which featured Kolkata as another starring character.
The story of the movie Kahaani tells us the story of Vidya Bagchi, a pregnant woman who was searching for her missing husband in Kolkata during the festival of Durga Puja. She was helped by an assistant Sub-Inspector Satyoki named Rana Sinha, the role played by Parambrata Chatterjee and General A Khan, played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
Sujoy Ghosh has tweeted on the film Kahaani’s 10th anniversary, he said that “Ten years of #kahaani … so many people to thank but none more than ALL OF YOU who continues to own the film. thank you for looking after our film. thank you for your continuing love which inspires us to work harder. massive love from the team (sic)”.
The movie Kahaani is co-written by Sujoy Ghosh with Aditya Kala and co-produced it under Boundscript Motion with Kushal Kantilal Gada.
The film has grossed about Rs 91.7 crore at the box office after the critical acclaim and word-of-mouth publicity. The movie Kahaani has also won three National Awards for best original screenplay by Sujoy Ghosh, for best editing by Namrata Rao, and for the special jury award by Siddiqui. The success of Kahaani has also led to a spiritual successor, titled Kahaani 2: Durga Rani Singh, which was released in 2016.
The movie Kahaani was remaked by Sekhae Kammula in Telugu and was named as Anaamika, which was released on 2014. The movie starring Nayanthara in the Vidya’s role. A South Korean remake of Kahaani is also under development. The film will be co-produced by Ghosh and Hyunwoo Thomas Kim of Seoul-based Kross Pictures.
In February with PTI in an interview, Kim has said that they were “now casting” for the remake and hope to go on floors later this year.
The original movie Kahaani has also stars Indraneil Sengupta and Saswata Chatterjee, who have played the fan favourite character named Bob Biswas, a LIC agent who moonlighted as a cold-blooded contract killer. A spin-off on the breakout character, titled Bob Biswas and starring Abhishek Bachchan in the lead, was released last year on the streaming platform named ZEE5.
