Recently, a Public Interest Litigation was filed in the Telangana High Court that moved for the ban of the mobile app Battlegrounds Mobile India. This was filed by Advocate Anil S Jangam and called on the ban of the popular battle royale title with the claim that the game was just PUBG with a different name.

The PIL goes on to say that the earlier version, PUBG was the exact same as BGMI and that the developers Tencent and publisher Krafton had employed the process of front companies to hide the app’s original Chinese ties and deceive Indian authorities.

PUBG was originally banned due to the Chinese ties that it carried, Tencent is one of the biggest gaming companies in the world that is based in China. The game was later on re-launched under the moniker of Battlegrounds Mobile India after the ban with a few minor changes by the South Korean publisher Krafton.

In a response to the PIL, the representative of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, N. Samaya Balan responded to the Telangana High Court and assured the public that the two apps ‘PUBG mobile’ and ‘BGMI’ are totally different.

The affidavit filed by Balan confirmed that the two applications, ‘PUBG Mobile’ and ‘Battlegrounds Mobile India’ are not the same app. The affidavit, later on, explained that the only government has the ability and power to restrict computer access.

The response by the Ministry towards the PIL on the game suggests that it is not likely to be banned anytime in the future.
