Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is reportedly trying to negotiate peace between Ukraine and Russia after the armed invasion carried out by the latter. The oligarch was sought out by Kyiv to help end the conflict between the two countries, according to the Jewish news.

The 55-year-old is of Jewish descent and has Israeli citizenship. He has revoked his UK Visa and is among the most powerful businessmen in the world. He has currently stepped aside from his role in the daily activities of Chelsea, and has handed over the control of the club to its stewards.

“I can confirm Roman Abramovich was contacted by the Ukrainian side for support in achieving a peaceful resolution, and that he has been trying to help ever since,” an Abramovich spokeswoman said.

“Considering what is at stake, we would ask for understanding as to why we have not commented on either the situation as such or his involvement.”

While Roman Abramovich has been linked with Russian president Vladimir Putin, Chelsea have publicly condemned the violence involved in the conflict between the two countries.

As of now, it is unclear as to what kind of a role Roman Abramovich will have in the talks. The Russian and Ukrainian officials are expected to hold a conversation at the Belarusian border, from where the troops are entering North Ukraine.
