Gigi Buffon has extended his contract with Parma until 2024, as confirmed by the club on their official website and social media accounts. The player will be 46 by the time his new deal with Parma runs out, and he is now set to continue his iconic career and his challenge to help Parma return to Serie A.
The Italian legend returned to his boyhood club this past summer, after 20 years away. During this time, he established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world with Juventus, as well as a brief spell at Paris Saint-Germain.
Gigi Buffon renews contract with Parma
“Gigi is a great player, one of Italy’s three best goalkeepers and his renewal is a great pleasure for us,” said Parma president Kyle Krause.
“His passion and dedication for Parma and the city are obvious every time you see him.”
The goalkeeper has won the number 1 jersey at his boyhood club, and has made 23 appearances in Serie B this season. He originally spent six years with Parma before moving to Juventus as the most expensive goalkeeper in the world at the time.
He justified the price tag with his performances for Juventus, and helped them maintain a stronghold over the Italian top flight. After returning to Turin following a brief spell in Paris, he won the Scudetto and Coppa Italia. But now, Gigi Buffon’s challenge lies in helping Parma succeed in Serie B, and potentially representing Italy in the 2022 World Cup again.
