The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) finale between Comilla Victorians and Fortune Barishal on Friday was an exhilarating contest as the Victorians won the title by just 1 run.
The match saw both the teams playing their best and Barishal in the end needed 3 runs from just 1 ball. Towhid Hrodoy was on a strike along with Mujeeb Ur Rahman at the other end. Shohidul Islam bowled a quick one outside off-stump, Hridoy reached it with all he could but was able to only a single.
Comilla Victorians won the game against Fortune Barishal just by one run and made it’s mark in the history of BPL.
Barishal was chasing 12 runs and in the last over just needed 10 runs. Sunil Narine had a good performance as an all-rounder and he took Dwane Bravo’s wicket in the 18th over giving only just 2 runs. Narine’s performance was too good as he scored 57 runs in just 23 balls.
The first two balls in the deciding over went for just 3 runs before he bowled a wide.
Barishal had the perfect opportunity to win the game as they were at 107/2 in the 13th over, thanks to Shykat Ali’s knock of 58 runs off 34 balls. They lost 6 wickets for 43 runs in 7.2 overs and Comilla cashed in.
This was Shakib Al Hassan’s third BPL final loss. Shakib took 1 wicket for 30 runs in four overs and made 7 runs in just 7 balls. He had a poor performance in the 1st qualifier but Barishal still couldn’t lift the title.
Fortune Barishal have been very consistent in the BPL, losing only two games. Comilla Victorians have had a good season and had equal chances in the title clash. Shakib Al Hasan was leading Fortune Barishal whereas Imrul Kayes was leading Comilla Victorians.
