Premier League calls for meeting to re-evaluate COVID-19 rulings

The Premier League has come under fire in recent weeks for the way they have dealt with the rise in coronavirus cases in the teams. A total of 21 games have been suspended so far, with Burnley vs Watford and the North London derby the most recent postponed fixtures.

After the next round of matches, the league will have a meeting to discuss their rulings and fix matters once and for all. They further hope that the two-and-a-half week break will help the teams grow accustomed to the changes.

Premier League rulings about COVID-19 set to change

The Premier League released a statement about their plan of action from here on out:

‘The Premier League is consulting with our clubs regarding COVID-19 postponement rules and guidance in light of the changing national picture and the falling number of cases within our squads.

‘The league’s current guidance was amended in December following the emergence of the new Omicron variant and we continue to monitor the ongoing effects of the virus and will update our guidance accordingly.’

What once started out as teams being unable to field players at all is now turning into a case for teams being unable to field their best players. As a result, the league board has come under fire for letting teams postpone their games even if a sufficient number of players are available.

The talks of a meeting gives all parties hope that the rules will be the same for everyone when the league is back up and running again.
