Honor held a launch event that also witnessed the curtains being lifted on the Magic UI 6 and the Honor Watch GS 3. The highlight of the device was the Honor Magic V foldable smartphone, its main focus is the combination of a regular smartphone when folded and a large screen upon unfolding it.
In order to satisfy that need, the outer display has a 21:9 aspect ratio with extremely slim bezels, due to which the Honor Magic V looks and feels like any other smartphone when it is folded. The 120Hz panel measures 6.45″ along with a peak brightness of 1000 nits.
The inner display has a 90Hz refresh rate along with an aspect ratio of 20:9. The device is also very tough irrespective of being that slim, it has a curved nanocrystal glass that is used for the outer display, which helps the device achieve 5 times better anti-drop performance. In order to prove their point, the Honor executive dropped the Magic V a bunch of times as well.
The hinge of the device is another highlight of the phone as well, Honor claims that it is made of aerospace-grade materials. When folded, it has barely any gap between the frame, which has helped the Honor Magic V secure the title of being the slimmest foldable smartphone available as of now, when folded, it is 14.3m thick and has an unfolded thickness of 6.7mm.
The hinge also folds the display in a water-drop notch, making the crease nearly invisible, and is rated to survive 10 years of usage if folded and unfolded nearly 50 times a day.
The Honor Magic V is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip based on 4nm architecture, its AI performance has been claimed to boost performance by 300%, which aids MagicUI to adapt to a user’s usage scenarios through Magic Live AI Engine.
The battery of the device is a 4,750mAh battery that has been packed in an innovative dual battery layout to balance out charging and heat dissipation. It has a 66W wire SuperCharge which essentially means that it can full up to 50% in just under 15 minutes.
The phone has dual speakers certified by IMAX ENHANCED for an extremely immersive video and audio experience.
Coming to the camera specs, the Honor Magic V has a triple camera setup n the rear with a 50MP primary sensor with f/1.9 aperture, a 50MP spectrally enhanced lens with f/2.0 aperture, and a 50MP ultra-wide lens with f/2.2 aperture. The “spectrally enhanced” lens assists one to capture detailed images even in foggy conditions. For selfies, you get dual 42MP cameras, one in the outer and one in the inner display.
The Honor Magic V boots Magic UI 6 out of the box with a bunch of features dedicated to making multitasking and split-screen usage easier. It is available in Space Silver, Black, and Burnt Orange color options. In the box, you get a 66W HONOR SuperCharge brick, a 66W car charger, and a fiber phone case.
