The German automotive giant BMW has recently unveiled BMW Theatre Screen, a new in-car entertainment system. The entertainment system comprises a 31″ 8K screen that turns the back seat area of the car into a personal theatre.
As per a report by The Verge, at CES 2022, BMW has revealed their new Theatre Screen prototype. The entertainment system was built into a car, which appears to be the BMW Electric 7 Series.
The screen has been fitted into the ceiling of the car which descends to deliver a comfortable viewing experience.
The screen has an 8K resolution of 8000 x 2000 and it supports aspect ratios of 16:9, 21:9, and 32:9. The system runs on FireOS which grants other Fire TV apps and it also has 5G connectivity support.
The 31″ panel is a touch screen and additionally, small touchpad controls are integrated into the rear doors of the car.
The BMW Theatre Screen offers surround sound using 30 speakers from Bowers & Wilkins. BMW describes the sound as “4D” as it also utilizes the speakers built into the rear seats to provide audio vibrations and high emersion during intense moments.
The German automaker pushes the emersion aspect even further as they stated that “When the screen descends from the ceiling, the roller sunblinds for the side windows and the rear window are closed and the ambient lighting in the rear of the vehicle is dimmed.”
The company is yet to provide any information regarding the availability and cost of this Theatre Screen entertainment system but BMW officials have stated that the features “look quite similar to what will be launched very soon in series production.”
BMW is definitely taking the entertainment systems of their cars to a whole new level with this!
