Sergio Aguero is set to announce his retirement from football this Wednesday. Barcelona have prepared a ceremony for the same, to send the Argentinian off after a remarkable playing career with Manchester City, and a heartbreaking spell with the Blaugrana.
Why is Sergio Aguero retiring?
The striker had to be taken off the pitch in Barcelona’s game against Alaves, as he reported discomfort in his chest. Upon medical examination, it was found that Sergio Aguero had been diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmia.
A disease of the heart rhythm, it was expected that Aguero would be out for around three months before returning to action. But recently, it was revealed that the player would have to retire from football altogether. He has been suffering from heart problems since a young age. And now, they have taken a toll and seemingly ended his career prematurely.
Barcelona’s ceremony on Wednesday
“There is a ceremony on Wednesday wherein Aguero will announce that he’s retiring from football,” Emilio Perez de Rosas told Radio MARCA’s ‘A Diario’ programme.
“It seems that it was decided a few weeks ago, as the journalist Gerard Romero had said. But Rafa Yuste denied it and said there were still a couple of months left before doctors would decide.
“But, according to my information, Barcelona have prepared his farewell.”
Aguero scored only one Barcelona goal in El Clasico, playing 165 minutes for the club. He joined them in the summer after leaving Manchester City. And now, he will be departing the professional football scene to the dismay of fans all around the world.
