Ashes – Australia vs England : Match highlights

It was a good day for Pat Cummins as he got his dream start to his Australian captaincy career as the players of England got dismissed at 147 on the opening day.

All the players from England go dismissed at 147 runs on the opening day of the first Ashes Test against Australia at Gabba on Wednesday.

Unfortunately, the final session got cancelled due to rain and bad lights. Joe Root decided to bat first and soon 4 wickets were gone in just 29 runs. Jos Buttler and Ollie Pope had a partnership of 52 runs. Australia’s pace attack brought an end to England’s first innings in 50.1 overs. Pat Cummins finished with an extraordinary figure of 5/28.

The England team had a very poor start after the team’s skipper Joe Root decided to bat first. Rory Burns, the opening batter got out making zero runs. This happened for the first time in an Ashes series in the past 85 years. Haseeb Ahmed made only 25 runs, Jos Buttler scored 39 and pope scored 25. Mark Wood brought in 8 runs for the team, Dalwin Malan was earlier caught behind for a six but he pushed a rising Hazlewood delivery which gave Carey his first Test dismissal.

The harsh reality is that the England team has lost nine of the last tests in Australia without any victory. In the last 20 Tests that England played in Australia, Alastair Cook has been only persistent with his performance. He scored 67, 235 not out, 148, 82, 189, and 244 not out in the three wins and two draws interspersed among 15 defeats. If Root desires to maintain his legacy, he has to definitely do something phenomenal.
