Juventus under scrutiny for incorrect accounting from 2019-21

Juventus are being investigated for potential corruption, and might be relegated to Serie B as a result. As punishment, they might be stripped of their 2020 Scudetto as well. The Bianconeri have been charged with incorrect accounting. Profits worth €50 million are being investigated by the authorities in Italy, over a two-year spell.

42 transfers over a two-year spell are under the eye of COVISOC and Consob. These include the high-profile transfers of Arthur, Joao Cancelo, Danilo and Miralem Pjanic.

CODACONS, the association for the protection of consumer rights, has confirmed the extent of the punishment that Juventus could face.

Juventus had to face a previous punishment in 2006, due to the Calciopoli scandal. They were relegated to Serie B as a result. Their 2004/05 title was stripped and they started the 2006/07 season in Serie B.

The club has released a statement regarding the situation, and here is what it reads: “As necessary, Juventus is collaborating with the investigators and with Consob and is confident that it will clarify every aspect of interest to them, believing that it has operated in compliance with the laws and regulations governing the preparation of financial reports, in compliance with accounting principles and in in line with international football industry practice and market conditions.”

The club’s offices in Turin and Milan were raided by Italian authorities as part of the investigation. The financial documents and invoices were seized, as a result. The president of the club, Andrea Agnelli, and vice president Pavel Nedved are under investigation. Former sporting director Fabio Paratici is among the other six people who are under watch by the authorities.
