Chennaiyin FC defeated NorthEast United 2-1 in the ISL. The two teams enjoyed an equal opportunity to score, but ultimately, it was the South Indian club that found the back of the net twice to take all three points.
Chennaiyin make it 2/2
Chennaiyin now have six points from two games and have achieved a 100% winning start so far. Lallianzuala Chhangte was named the Hero of the Match, as he scored an absolute screamer to open the scoring for the winners.
With only one goal conceded, they have the best defensive record in the league, the only one against being an own goal.
A rare throw-in goal
NorthEast United equalised courtesy of an own goal courtesy of Chennaiyin keeper Vishal Kaith. The keeper absolutely botched an attempt to gather the long throw in headed for the box. As a result, the ball ended up in the back of the net when it really could have been prevented. But we now have a rare goal from a throw in to see.
Leading from the front
Chennaiyin captain Anirudh Thapa scored the winning goal of the game. The midfielder dashed forward in the 74th minute, and beat Subhasish Chowdhury with ease. The 23-year-old fired the ball into the centre of the net and scored the winner in the process.
With only one point from three games, NorthEast United are now ninth in the table. They will face FC Goa next, searching for their first win. Chennaiyin, on the other hand, face East Bengal who are also winless in the league from two games.
