It’s that time of year again, when all of the big-name flagship phones have been released for the year, and we’re getting ready for another round of phone releases, ad infinitum.
The Mediatek Summit is over, and the company has revealed the specifications of its next flagship chipset. The chipset is officially known as the MediaTek Dimensity 9000, which is a moniker that differs from all the leaks.
Qualcomm’s turn comes two weeks later, with the Snapdragon Summit and the unveiling of the Snapdragon 898, however it might also be the Snapdragon 895.
Here are the rumoured specs of all the three chips in question, though, take it with a pinch of salt.

Each year, a new smaller manufacturing technique is introduced. This year, all firms are utilizing 4nm, although Qualcomm and Samsung utilize the Samsung fab, whilst Mediatek uses the TSMC fab.
There’s a strong belief amongst industry experts that TSMC is a better choice, and that this is one of the reasons why Samsung’s SD888 and Exynos 2100 have low thermal efficiency. With this year’s chipsets having a similar CPU architecture, it appears that we will find out in 2022 as to who the real leader is.
Mediatek has confirmed the frequencies and the four primary CPUs are clocked higher than Qualcomm, at 3.05 GHz for the single Arm Cortex-X2 and 2.85 GHz for the three Arm Cortex-A710 CPUs.
However, the biggest take this year will be the changes coming to the GPU.
Qualcomm will use the Adreno, which is expected to be the Adreno 730, and there isn’t much information about it yet.
Mediatek will likewise follow a familiar path, this time with the ARM Mali-G710 MC10. As it is two models up with an additional core, this should be a significant boost over the Density 1200.
but things are getting more interesting as Samsung has switched to the AMD RDNA 2 GPU and this might be the difference between the Exynos chipset succeeding or failing. Many are optimistic about this decision, and it is expected that the AMD GPU will outperform the Arm Mali GPU significantly.
As to which processor will come on top, remains to be seen.
For more information, stay tuned.
