Vinicius Jr is having the best season of his career so far under Carlo Ancelotti. The Brazilian winger has scored nine goals this season (7 in La Liga and 2 in the UCL). This is his best ever tally, and we are only done with a third of the season.
The player has become a major attacking threat for Los Blancos, and is undroppable given his current form. His confidence and finishing have both improved under Ancelotti, and the 21-year-old is undoubtedly among the best in the league right now.
With Vinicius Jr entering the conversation for the best talents in the upcoming decade, a comparison with Kylian Mbappe is on the horizon. The French forward is 18 months older than Vinicius, and lifted the FIFA World Cup with France as a teenager.
Mbappe has scored six goals (5 in Ligue 1 and the other in UCL) this season. His passing accuracy is also marginally less than that of Vinicius.
Based on the numbers alone, Vinicius is having a marginally better season than Mbappe. However, the numbers do not tell the full story. The Brazilian is the focus of Real Madrid’s attack right now, and is charged with leading counter attacks due to his brilliant pace and dribbling.
While Mbappe enjoys a similar role, he is a much more well-rounded footballer due to his experience. But, if Vinicius continues to keep up his form in the months and years to come, he could easily be one of the best players in the world.
