Inter Milan formally announced the contract extension of Lautaro Martinez until 2026. They are now turning their attention to Nicolo Barella. The midfielder is expected to sign a new deal with the Nerazzurri next week, following his teammate.
The Italy international is expected to sign a five-year deal with Inter Milan. His salary with the club will also increase as part of the new contract. The deal has been given the here we go signal by Fabrizio Romano, and it is only a matter of time before the extension is official.
Barella’s current contract runs until 2024, but Inter Milan see the player as a vital part of their future. They want Barella to inherit the captain’s armband from Samir Handanovic when the keeper eventually leaves. The new contract would discourage any other clubs to try and sign the player since he has a long-term deal in place.
The 24-year-old is one of the highest valued players in the squad, currently valued at €65 million. He was a vital part of the lineup that won the Scudetto under Antonio Conte last season. Over the summer, he also won the European Championship with Italy.
Barella has been with Inter Milan since 2019, having moved to the San Siro from Cagliari. Over the last couple of years, he has established himself as a key part of the midfield. And now, the board wants him committed to the club for the next few years.
