Franck Ribery has arrived in Salerno today, and will appear for the transfer medical assessment to complete his move to Salernitana tomorrow. The player has agreed to a one-year contract with the newly promoted Serie A club until June 2022.
Ribery is set to earn a salary worth €1.5 million in total during his time at the club. The former France international stays in Italy after playing for Fiorentina for two seasons. His contract with them expired this summer, and since then, he has been training with former club Bayern Munich.
The Bavarians were seriously considering a formal proposal to have the winger return to the club. Fellow Bundesliga club Hertha Berlin were also in contact with him for a move back to Germany, but the player declined their offer out of loyalty to Bayern Munich.
The 38-year-old has now made his decision and he will stay in Italy for the upcoming season. Once Ribery completes his transfer medical tomorrow, he will be officially announced as a new signing for the club as a free agent.
During his time at Bayern Munich, Ribery made 425 appearances across 12 seasons with the German giants. He scored 124 goals and provided 182 assists across all competitions. In the process, the Frenchman won every single trophy available and he was also a part of the squad that won the treble in 2013.
Ribery made 51 appearances for Fiorentina across two seasons, scoring 5 goals and providing 10 assists. The veteran will surely help Salernitana’s chances of avoiding relegation in their first season back.
