Angel Di Maria, Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero are international teammates and have recently won the Copa America 2021 with Argentina. The former Manchester City forward joined Barcelona in a free transfer in a bid to play alongside Lionel Messi.
However, things have taken a rough turn and Messi has now left Barcelona over La Liga’s financial restrictions and have joined PSG and will pair up with Di Maria. Aguero who wanted to play with Messi at club level will have to settle otherwise.
Di Maria said with a laugh during an interview with TyC Sports, via Marca: “Kun wants to kill himself, what can you do,”
“Apart from all that [Messi leaving Barcelona], the worst thing is that he got injured again and will be out for several weeks. That’s the saddest thing.”
Juventus striker Cristiano Ronaldo was also linked with a move to PSG, but now instead Messi has signed for the club.
Di Maria said: “Cristiano must want to kill himself for not being here [at PSG].”
“The quality and quantity of players that PSG have now is unique. It doesn’t often happen at clubs and the great players always want to be with the best.”
“Cristiano surely wants to be here, but they brought Messi and luckily he’s much better.”
Di Maria added about Messi: “For me, honestly it’s very easy to play with him [Messi]. If you run, he passes the ball to you and it falls at your feet.”
“There are no excuses for anything. I have an excellent relationship with him on and off the pitch. It’s easy to see what he wants.”
“Messi is from another world. You kick a stone at him and he stops it, he passes you like it’s nothing, he thinks before the other guy. I’ve never seen anything like it.”
“I played with Cristiano, Neymar, [Kylian] Mbappe, [Wayne] Rooney, [Robin] Van Persie, [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic, [Karim] Benzema, [Gareth] Bale and honestly I’ve never seen anything like it. He’s unique, Leo.”
“I think Messi will feel better here than in Catalonia. With the reception he received in Paris, I think he already realised what he brings, what he does and what he is.”
“The people here are going to show him that in every training session and in every game. Because of him there are now 200 people outside every time we go out.”
