However, Real Madrid are now eyeing recent Euro 2020 champion Giorgio Chiellini. The 36-year-old is currently a free agent after his contract with Juventus ended this summer, and he is yet to sign a contract extension with the Turin side.
According to reports from Calciomercato.com, new Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti is looking at the veteran centre back as a replacement for Sergio Ramos.
After the departure of Ramos, Varane may also be on the verge of departure. Manchester United are keen to bring him to Old Trafford this summer. So to prepare for life without Ramos and possibly Varane, Ancelotti may bring in the veteran Italian defender.
